Fuschl Am See – How breaking my tripod taught me a lesson

This February I was in Germany for an Organic Trade Show for work. After the show I had a chance to stop by a great town in Austria called “Fuschl Am See” to visit a friend and take some photos.

I started taking photos of the lake around sunset, so I was using my tripod for longer exposures and to truly capture the beautiful scenes around me. Unfortunately, after some shots, I came to realize that some shots came out blurry because one of the tripod legs was broken and wasn’t keeping the tripod stable. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Luis, why didn’t you just hand-hold the camera?”. Well, for longer exposures, especially at dark, the tripod really does make a difference. So with no working tripod, I put my equipment away and decided to just enjoy the scenes around me.

The next day I went to see my friend before I had to take my bus back to Mistelbach, and decided to leave my equipment behind (again, due to the tripod issue). The views where we took our walk were nothing short of incredible, and all I had was my phone. Now, the photographer in me felt a little upset to not have my “good” camera on hand to capture everything, but as the walk went through, I started to realize that some times I should put the camera down and just enjoy the surroundings and the company we have. I may not have incredible shots of the second day, but at least i took with me great memories that as a photo would, will last a long time.

Here are the few photos I managed to take at night, hope you enjoy them!
